Ready or Not - Anchorage Here I Come

I'm not sure if I'm ready, but the Tour of Anchorage is this coming Sunday and I'm in it. This year, due to the lack of snow and good training opportunities, I opted to enter the 40 rather than 50 kilometer race. In the 50K race you have to climb a HUGE series of hills right at the start, and I decided that I am just not up to it this year. So it's the wimpy 40K race for me! Still, it is a long race and, given my lack of on snow training, it will be a challenge. My goals this year are to finish in under 2:05 and in the top 25. I hope I am not biting off more than I can chew! Especially since it seems I've caught the kid's cold.

Photo - Me in last year's race after I had just finished with the 'HUGE series of hills' and lost the front pack.

I am sure you will do great, though if is the cold my family had for the past two weeks, you may be in tough shape!

top 25 after no training? Wow Patrick you set your sights pretty high. Good luck and tell me all the juicy details next week. I was going to do some marathons in ME and I got really sick for about a month so...no race.

Perhaps I did set my sights too high - but top 25 in the 40K is WAY different than top 25 in the 50K. If I was in the 50K I'd be happy to break the top 100.

What's funny is that sick as I am and with virtually no on snow skate skiing under my belt I feel a lot less pressure than usual. I am way more relaxed because this year I really do not care how well I do - I just want to finish and do it. Also, I'm not in bad shape because I have downhill skiing every day (usually in the rain). Patrick
